Almost half the town remains without power Tuesday, with crews from Connecticut Light & Power working around the state to restore some of the almost half-a-million customers who remain without power.

As of 12:28 p.m. Tuesday, 44 percent of Glastonbury—6,864 CL&P customers—remains without power. The town opened Glastonbury High School and Academy School to allow residents to shower and charge their electronics.

Town Manager Richard Johnson met with staff and emergency management officials Tuesday morning to discuss town restoration and assess conditions. As of 12:28 p.m., the town had decided not to open any of the overnight shelters in Glastonbury.

Many of the businesses in town center have power and are currently open for business.

Here is the latest emergency information for Glastonbury as Hurricane Sandy moves in:

  • The Glastonbury Call Center opened at 8 a.m. this morning.  They will be open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. with information for residents every day of the storm clean-up.

Town Facilities:

  • UPDATED: Town Hall, the Welles-Turner Memorial Library, the Riverfront Community Center and the Youth and Family Services offices all have electricity and are open for business at their normal operating hours.

Emergency Shelter:

  • UPDATED: The Town has decided not to open any overnight shelters as of 12:29 p.m. Tuesday.

Shower Facilities:

  • UPDATED: Glastonbury High School will be available for shower facilities starting Tuesday, October 30th. Specific schedules on the 30th will be subject to weather conditions. Beginning tomorrow, the facilities at GHS will be open from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Charging and Comfort Stations:

  • Academy Building, 2149 Main Street starting Tuesday, October 30th with the specific schedule on the 30th subject to weather conditions. Thereafter the daily schedule will be 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on an “as needed” basis. Enter through Door A. or through the Parks & Recreation Door in the back of the building. Charging Station and Computer Kiosks will be located in the Cafeteria.

Potable Water:

Residents may obtain potable water at all Glastonbury Fire Stations. Residents must provide their own containers. Fire Station locations are as follows:

  •  Fire Station # 1, 2825 Main Street, Rear of Fire Station
  • Fire Station #2, 905 Main Street, Rear of Fire Station
  • Fire Station #3, Hopewell Road, Rear of Fire Station
  • Fire Station #4, 1247 Manchester Road, Front of Fire Station

Note: Please do not block fire trucks while getting water.

Internet:

  • Academy Building Cafeteria, 2143 Main Street from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. This service will be available effective Tuesday, October 30th. As noted above the schedule on the 30th will be subject to weather conditions.  Time will be limited to 20 minutes per session when others are waiting.

Your patience is encouraged and appreciated during this difficult time.
