Congregation Kol Haverim Welcomes New Director of Congregational Learning

Congregation Kol Haverim in Glastonbury is pleased to welcome Rabbi Sarah Bracha Gershuny as our new Director of Congregational Learning. Rabbi Sarah was recently ordained by the Rabbinical School of Hebrew College in Boston, a trans-denominational institution from which she also received her Masters in Jewish Education.

Sarah Bracha comes to Kol Haverim with extensive experience in education and community-building. She has enjoyed working with children, teens and adults in environments that span classrooms, synagogues, retreat and community centers, universities and summer camps. She is passionate about Jewish education and Jewish living, and loves soulful prayer, singing, meditation and communication.

“I’m thrilled to be taking on this position. Kol Haverim is such a warm and welcoming community. With 170 students enrolled for the coming year, I‘m busy making sure our religious school is well-organized, fun, welcoming, and able to provide every single student with a meaningful Jewish education. We have a great faculty lined up, and a curriculum that just keeps getting better and better.

”Meanwhile, I’m really excited about the potential for adult ed in our community.  Our ‘Preparing Your Heart for the High Holy Days’ series, which will start in mid-September, is going to be a fantastic program, featuring art-making, music, movement, writing, text-study, and discussion groups. There couldn’t be a better way to get ready for Days of Awe, and I know it’s going to be a phenomenal kick-off for our learning together in the year ahead.

“There’s a lot of thirst among the adults here to sink their teeth into satisfying learning. Whether they’re the parents of young children, empty-nesters, singles, the parents of b’nei mitzvah, or seniors looking for meaningful study, there are a lot of people who are longing for a richer and deeper Jewish education than they necessarily had growing up. It’s my job to help them access it.”

A native of London, England, Rabbi Sarah has moved to Glastonbury and has already started preparing for the upcoming year. You can reach Rabbi Sarah at director@kolhaverim.org.
