WELLES-SHIPMAN-WARD HOUSE MUSEUM TO PARTICIPATE IN 10TH ANNUAL CONNECTICUT OPEN HOUSE DAY

As part of the 10th Annual Connecticut Open House held on Saturday, June 14th, the Historical Society of Glastonbury (HSG) is offering FREE admission between the hours of 10:00a.m and 2:00p.m., at the Welles-Shipman-Ward House Museum and its surrounding property.
This is a chance for residences in town and across the state, to visit and tour a historic c. 1755 Connecticut River Valley Mansion.  As a guest, you’ll be greeted by a costumed docent and given a tour of what was considered a mansion in its day.  The house originally owned by John Welles, a Glastonbury Shipyard owner, features the largest known period kitchen fireplace in Connecticut, gorgeous unique antiques including one of two High Back Queen Anne Corner Chairs known to exist, a c.1750 loom, weaving and spinning equipment.
The property features a colonial revival garden, the recently reconstructed Tobacco Shed, white and red barns from the 1800’s and the 200 year old English style bank barn.  Free admission to the house museum and property is part of CT Office of Tourisms’ (a division of the Department of Economic & Community Development) annual one-day statewide event designed to showcase Connecticut’s diverse world of history, art, and tourism. This is a great way for residents to discover or rediscover all that is happening in Glastonbury and throughout the state.
The Welles-Shipman-Ward House Museum is located at 972 Main Street (Route 17) South Glastonbury, CT 06073.  Phone 860-633-6890 or visit www.hsgct.org for more information.
