Glastonbury VFW Hosting “March Madness” Packing Event for Deployed Troops

The VFW Post 7659 and its Women’s Auxiliary are sponsoring a collection and packing event for the troops overseas on Feb. 10.

On Sunday, Feb. 10, the Glastonbury VFW Post 7659 and its Women’s Auxiliary is gathering with volunteers from around the area to help troops overseas to indulge in a little “March Madness.”

The VFW is sponsoring a “March Madness” collection and packing event at 3 p.m. at South Congregational Church, 1301 Forbes St., East Hartford, to create care packages that will allow troops deployed overseas to enjoy watching college football.

Volunteers are needed from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. to sort and pack donated items. Anyone wishing to donate items for the care packages can do so between noon and 1:30 p.m.

Donations of snack foods—small packages of chips, boxes of crackers and cookies, dip in non-breakable containers, and other party foods—are needed for the care packages. Donations of St. Patrick’s Day and spring greeting cards and pictures are also encouraged.

The VFW is also looking for monetary donations to help with the cost of postage. Checks can be sent to:
