Glastonbury Colonial Games Day Coming Aug. 15!

Ever wonder what children played with before video games, playscapes and modern sports? Come find out!

How well would your child do without their Nintendo, iPads or televisions in favor of the hoop and stick? Now’s a chance to see, while teaching them about the history of their town!

The Historical Society of Glastonbury is hosting its annual “Colonial Games Day” on Thursday, Aug. 15, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the historic Welles-Shipman-Ward house, 972 Main St.

Local gym teacher and Historical Society of Glastonbury docent Ann Kehl will lead the games as groups of children—ages 6 to 12—play the traditional games of the 18th and early 19th century:

  • How many miles to Babylon
  • Blinds Man Buff
  • Sack Races
  • Hopscotch
  • Hoop Rolling
  • Stilt Walking
  • ...and many more!

Juice and cookies will be served, and the climax of the games will be a rousing tug of war competition. Admission is $5.
