Glastonbury Chamber Names Carolyne Gatesy 'Business Person of the Year'

The Chamber will honor Carolyne Gatesy at a dinner on January 30.

Every year the Glastonbury Chamber of Commerce honors a local individual with the coveted  'Business Person of the Year' award. The committee who reviews and ultimately selects the recipient is comprised of past Business Person of the Year award winners.

It gives the Chamber great pleasure to bestow this honor to Carolyne Gatesy this year.

Carolyne started her career in the IT area as a computer programmer for a large manufacturing company, a computer analyst for a computer consulting company, and was the assistant director of information systems at a local university. She then started her own successful computer company which became Wang Laboratories 2nd highest dollar sales vendor ($3M) in the U.S. She also co-founded an image processing company which eventually did a $10M NASDAQ public offering, and was also part owner of a large drug and alcohol testing company where she managed IT.

All of her start-up companies started out at her current location on Main Street next to the library. Now called Main Street Office Center, she has been providing offices, virtual offices, administration services and business consulting for over 18 years.

As an avid hiker, climber, and outdoors person, Carolyne also started a publishing company which sold out its original adventure travel book with 3,600 copies.

Carolyne is no stranger to the Glastonbury Chamber. She has been an active member since 1990 and has been a Chamber Ambassador for the past 13 years, where she currently serves as co-chair. Carolyne was the first person to have been awarded the 'Ambassador of the Year' award twice, and she is in contention to win it for a third time this year!  She has also served on the Executive Board of Directors as well as the Board of Directors. Carolyne has served on numberous Chamber committees and most recently co-chaired the beer garden at the Apple Harvest Festival in it's inaugural year!

She has and continues to serve on the board of directors of many organizations, volunteers in the community, has captained a dragon boat team for 5 years, was inducted into the Torrington High School Athletic Hall of Fame, writes resumes for disadvantaged women with Dress for Success, is running a half marathon in every state, climbing the highest peak in every state, holds a world record for climbing the highest peak in Antarctica, and was recently featured as one of the Glastonbury Life magazine’s Female Entrepreneurs.  

Carolyne has over 25 years experience in the business arena as an entrepreneur starting new ventures and implementing strategies that create successful businesses. She is highly motivated, energetic, hard-working and a fun-loving person. She strives for the best no matter what she pursues, always interested in helping others and sharing her experiences, the failures and successes.

Carolyne is a successful entrepreneur, accomplished athlete, published author, world traveler, community volunteer, as well as a great mother.

She holds a B.S. degree in Math and Computer Science from Purdue University, an M.S. in Math from Central Connecticut State University, and an MBA in Finance from University of Connecticut.
