Ricoh to Downsize

The Glastonbury company will lay off 57 employees in November.

Glastonbury's Ricoh Office will lay off 57 employees at the end of November, according to a letter filed with the Connecticut Department of Labor.

The layoffs in the company's Glastonbury office are part of a larger downsizing effort that includes shutting down a New Jersey branch. More than 70 employees will lose their jobs in that move, the letter states.

The company's website says that Ricoh is encouraging customers to use its self-service, online customer services. Up to now, many of those services have been handled by phone in the Glastonbury office. In addition, collections work currently done in Glastonbury will be moved to Macon, Ga., according to a company spokesperson.

The office digital equipment and electronics business, located at 855 Winding Brook Drive, broke the news to its employees on Monday. Read more about the layoffs in this story in the Hartford Courant.
