Coldwell Banker Sales Team Partners With Nehemiah Community Reinvestment Fund To Provide Home To Local Veteran

Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage is pleased to announce that the James Macchio Executive Realty Team, a sales team affiliated with the Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage office in Glastonbury, presented keys to the first Roofs for Troops recipient in Connecticut, Ronald Haag, thanks to a partnership between Nehemiah Community Reinvestment Fund (NCRF), Bank of America, and the National Community Stabilization Trust.

The James Macchio Executive Realty Team, led by James Macchio and Sheldon Haag, helped facilitate the renovation and sale of the Bank of America property under Nehemiah’s Roofs for Troops Program, a program designed to help our nation's returning veterans by providing affordable homeownership opportunities.

Nehemiah Community Reinvestment Fund, a nonprofit, federally-certified community development financial institution (CDFI), created the Roofs for Troops program in response to the estimated 2 million military veterans who will return home from service by 2015. Roofs for Troops provides an opportunity for veterans and active duty military personnel to participate in the housing recovery by purchasing clean, safe, renovated and well-priced homes. The program is made possible through partnerships with financial institutions like Bank of America, to facilitate the acquisition and then renovation and sale of distressed properties through nonprofits like Nehemiah.

Renovations to the 900-square-foot home located at 12 Bay Avenue in New Britain included new windows, a new roof, new mechanical systems, refinished hardwood floors, a finished basement, as well as a new kitchen featuring granite countertops and stainless steel appliances.

Once renovations were completed, the home was sold to Ronald Haag, a 25-year-old Army Sergeant, for $102,000.  In addition to the first look opportunity, Ronald received a 25% discount off of his offer price through his participation in the Roofs for Troops program.

“This home purchase has been a life-altering experience for me, and I am so grateful I was able to benefit from the Roofs for Troops program,” said Haag. “I would like to thank Roofs for Troops and James and his team for helping to make this happen.”

“It is critical to support programs like Roofs for Troops, which assists men and women who sacrifice so much to protect our freedom. I, along with the rest of my team, was very happy we were able to help a local veteran achieve a piece of the American dream -- homeownership,” said Macchio.

The team would like to thank Ty Reed, managing partner of San Marcos, Calif.-based Loan Resolution Corp., for its role in securing, managing and selling the property, and Guy Neumann, owner of Hartford-based GN Construction, for working with the city of New Britain to bring the property up to code and for the full revitalization of the home.

“I am very proud of James and Sheldon and the rest of the team for taking the time to participate in this effort. This team of sales associates continues to be successful because of its creativity, energy and dedication to providing superior service to their customers and clients,” said Paula Wilcox, sales manager of the Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage office in Glastonbury.

In addition to Macchio and Sheldon Haag, the James Macchio Executive Realty Team includes sales associates Tammy Collins, Nancy Bard, David Candolera and Kathleen Escobales. The team serves homebuyers and sellers in Glastonbury, Cromwell, Manchester and the surrounding communities in Greater Hartford.
