September 10—Glastonbury CT, Local author, Tom Faustman’s second book, Dylan’s Monster, an Indie Thriller, has received initial critical praise. The common thread of reviews? While the book has readers flipping pages at the suspenseful plot based on a real serial killer in 1970’s Philadelphia, it is also surprisingly humorous.
“I admit to having a penchant for reading about serial killers. I find them fascinating from a psychological standpoint. However, I rarely read a book with this topic that had me laughing out loud and so absorbed with the other characters!,” said John Hartnett. Don Breeden posted on Amazon, “I also loved the somewhat obscure references. Haystacks Calhoun, an owl without a vowel, Overbrook High School and Floyd Patterson--the heavy weight who could box like Ray Robinson and took a punch like your wife. Loved it. Who comes up with this stuff?”
Childhood friend and Temple Basketball coach Fran Dunphy, had the same reaction. Reading the book for the first time on a plane trip, he called Tom and told him that people were staring at him and thought he was nuts because he couldn’t stop belly-laughing.

Indeed, it wouldn’t be shocking for friends to learn that Tom’s career in mischief began at the tender age of 3. His penchant for trouble started when little Tom thought it a great idea to meander out of his yard and ride a bus and a few trolleys around Baltimore for a good part of the day—terrifying his mother and neighbors who couldn’t find the missing little guy. Perhaps it was the early fame that came with a photo and article in the Baltimore Sun about his joy ride that sparked his love of keeping his friends and family guessing.
For reader’s of Dylan’s Monster, it’s clear that Tom’s spirit is infused with the hero of the book—Dylan. The thriller, just released this summer, is gaining momentum on Amazon, Facebook and Goodreads. Five local book clubs are currently reading Dylan and Tom is available for appearances upon request.
