1st Annual HSG Tag Sale in the Tobacco Shed

HISTORICAL SOCIETY OF GLASTONBURY PRESENTS 1st ANNUAL TAG SALE IN THE TOBACCO SHED

The Historical Society of Glastonbury (HSG) proudly presents its first annual Tag Sale in the  Tobacco Shed - a two day event Friday and Saturday October 4th and 5th, 8am – 2pm.  The tag sale is rain or shine, admission is free and will be held in the newly reconstructed Tobacco Shed located at Welles-Shipman-Ward House, 972 Main Street, (Route 17) in South Glastonbury.
The HSG had to postpone its bi-annual fall Walk-House Tour along Main Street due to the scheduled construction of sidewalks along this area.  It was imperative they replace this popular fundraiser with another one.  The goal and mission of the society is to educate through the preservation and promotion of Glastonbury’s extraordinary historical legacy.  In addition to owning, maintaining, and operating multiple historic properties, the society sponsors numerous public events, publishes books, brochures and news articles and maintains an exceptional research library.  As a non-profit the society executes these activities solely by the support of members, business sponsors, foundations, donations, grants, the Town and State and a dedicated group of volunteers.  The concept of utilizing the newly restored Tobacco Shed was on everyone’s mind.  Once HSG’s board of directors realized it didn’t make sense to host a walking house tour along Main Street while under construction, the opportunity to host a fundraising event at the Tobacco Shed was the perfect solution.  The event – a fall tag sale in a tobacco shed, a perfect setting!
A tag sale allows HSG members, and non-members, to clean out their homes and simultaneously give back to the community by donating unwanted items. In turn it allows for the consumer to reuse, recycle, and “be green” and sustainable while decorating and furnishing one’s home, finding a unique present for a friend, coworker, or family member and also to view and explore the progress and creation of the hands on education within the newly restored tobacco shed.
All funding from this event will go towards educational programs and preservation projects.  HSG provides the entire Glastonbury fifth grade student body with free, all day, hands on field trips at the Welles-Shipman-Ward House.  HSG also host free public events such as Farm Day – an event filled with fun and educational activities celebrating Glastonbury’s farming history.  Funds also ensure the continuation of preservation projects such as establishing National and Local Historic districts and preserving Glastonbury’s record number of colonial structures.
HSG will be accepting any items you wish to donate on Saturday, September 21st from 9am to Noon at the Welles-Shipman-Ward House.  The Tag Sale will be a two day event: Friday and Saturday October 4th and 5th, 8am – 2pm.  The event is rain or shine and admission is free.  The newly reconstructed Tobacco Shed is located at Welles-Shipman-Ward House, 972 Main Street, (Route 17) in South Glastonbury.  Parking is available on site, with overflow parking at St. Augustine’s Church, at 55 Hopewell Road.   A well-maintained short path from the parking area leads to the WSW house.   For more information, contact the Historical Society at 860-633-6890 or HSGlastonbury@sbcglobal.net, or www.hsgct.org
