Living with Art: Selected Works from the Margaret Penn Collection of Haitian and African American Art

The Windsor Art Center hosts Living with Art: Selected Works from the Margaret Penn Collection of Haitian and African American Art from July 19 through August 30. This exhibition will serve the primary purpose of highlighting works by outstanding artists of African descent (both living and deceased) in Haiti and in the United States, and of being the vehicle for educational programming that contextualizes these pieces within the African American and the more encompassing American cultures. In a broader sense, it will also address the joys and challenges associated with the collection and preservation of artwork.

Stephen D. Rose is guest curator for this exhibition. Mr. Rose is an artist, educator, and cultural competency trainer.   The exhibition includes noted artists Jacob Lawrence (1917-2000), Elizabeth Catlett (1915-2012), and Allan Rohan Crite (1910-2007).

The exhibition opens with a reception on Saturday, July 19 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm and continues through August 30.  Gallery hours are: Thursday, 6:00 to 8:00 pm; Saturday, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm; and Sunday, 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.   The exhibition also includes the following programming:
