Glastonbury VFW Hosting Holiday Cookie Event for Soldiers Overseas

The Glastonbury VFW is holding a cookie donation and packing event on Dec. 2.

VFW Post 7659 and the woman’s auxiliary are collecting and packing holiday cookies for the troops overseas, in order to send them a little bit of home this holiday season.

The organization is hosting the event on Dec. 2 at the South Congregtional Church, 1301 Forbes St. in East Hartford. Cookies—whether they’re made from scratch or bought in store—should be dropped off by 2 p.m. that day.

The event is also looking for volunteers to sort donations, pack boxes, and make holiday cards to send to the troops overseas. They will also host an after-packing party to celebrate the holidays following the event, with volunteers asked to bring side dishes to share.

The VFW is also looking for monetary donations to help offset the cost of mailing the cookies to the troops. Those interested in donating can mail checks to VFW Post 7659, c/o Frank Forrest, 165 Maple St., East Hartford, CT  06188.
