Portland HS Basketball Coach Faces DWI Charge

Police claim two officers narrowly escaped from being hit by the coach's car.

A Portland High School basketball coach was arrested on a driving while intoxicated charge over the weekend, reportedly after he tried to drive through a police checkpoint.

According to a Middletown Press report, schoolteacher and basketball coach Christopher P. Serra, 33, of South Glastonbury, was arrested early Saturday, April 5 for reportedly trying to drive through a group of police cruisers from two towns conducting a traffic stop.

Glastonbury Police said Serra had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.18, more than twice the legal limit, when he was arrested. Serra was released after posting $2,500 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned April 23 in state Superior Court in Manchester, according to the Connecticut Judicial Branch website.
