Firefighters evacuated the TJ Maxx store in the plaza at 5 Main St. in East Hartford, just over the Glastonbury line, after a report of a fire and heavy smoke in the store.
The store was crowded when the fire was reported around 11:19 a.m., witnesses said. Firefighters from East Hartford and the Glastonbury Fire Department responded to the scene, and evacuated the store.
Fire officials reported that the fire was on the roof, but no further information is currently available.
