Cops: Woman Arrested, Tried to Rob Meriden Bank

Meriden Police are interviewing a woman who they say tried to rob a Wells Fargo bank branch Tuesday morning. No one was injured in the attempted heist that occurred shortly after 10:30 a.m. April 15.

Here is what police said in a statement:

"On Tuesday April 15, 2014, at approximately 10:37 am, the Meriden Police received a 911 phone call from the staff at the Wells Fargo Bank located at 43 E. Main Street. At that time they notified us that an unidentified black female had just lunged over the tellers counter, shoved the bank teller and attempted to take an undetermined amount of money from the cash drawer. The female was not successful in her attempts to obtain any cash and she fled the bank on foot once hearing that the police had been called. 

"Multiple officers were dispatched and a description of the female as well as a clothing description was broadcast. As officers were arriving on scene, multiple bank customers had exited the bank and they were pointing out the female suspect to the arriving officers. The female suspect, later identified as Priscilla Jones (D.O.B. 11/02/82), was immediately apprehended by officers Stoute and DeGumbia and taken into custody. Ms. Jones was then subsequently identified by the bank teller as well. 

According to officers on scene, they suspected that Ms. Jones may have been under the influence of either alcohol and/or drugs. Medical personnel responded to the scene; however, they determined that no further observation and/ or treatment were required. Ms Jones was then transported to the Police Department and charged with Criminal Attempt to Commit Robbery in the 2nd degree, Criminal Attempt to Commit Larceny in the 3rd degree and Breach of Peace. Ms. Jones is being held on a $50,000.00 bond at this time. A court date of 04/29/14. 

"Neither bank personnel nor the suspect was injured in this incident and no weapon was ever displayed and/or implied by the suspect."
