Barack Obama Re-Elected President

President Obama defeated Republican Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential election.

President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden were re-elected Tuesday night, defeating Republican challenger Mitt Romney and his running mate Rep. Paul Ryan.

NBC News called the presidential election for Obama around 11:15 EST. The president sent a message on Twitter at 10:14 saying simply, "This happened because of you. Thank you."

The Obama campaign won the most expensive presidential race ever, with both parties raising about $2.6 billion. The race was filled with negative campaigning on both sides, from President Obama attacking Romney’s business experience with Bain Capital to Romney lambasting Obama’s handling of the economy.

The race tightened during the final months of the campaign, with gaffes and surges from both candidates. After a weak performance after the Republican Convention, Romney surged following Obama’s listless performance after the first presidential debate. Nevertheless, the president cemented a lead in battleground states heading into Tuesday’s election.

Obama won Connecticut, in a race that was called early.

Obama’s performance in Connecticut was not surprising on a night when Democrat Chris Murphy soundly defeated Republican Linda McMahon in a race that analysts had been calling very close.

What does it say when roughly half of the citizen do not agree with the President?

I agree with Maria. I know of a friut company where the mom (millionaire) claims all the income, pays her adult kids under the table and they collect food stamps and use the tax payer funded Husky health plan.

Maria, of course conservatives worry about money. That's the incentive to go out and work hard and once you've done that, you don't want to give it away so easily. if those on the left (not all lefties) worked hard for their money instead of getting freebies, they might feel the same way. It really is a point of view based on perspective.

Am I missing something, Chris? What's the message that the winning 50% would like to tell the losing 50%? We had a few more vores that you. I can't seem to see another valid message.

I FIND THIS HARD TO BELIEVE ANY OF IT BECAUSE--The new IRS Whistleblower statute gives anyone with information about large-scale tax underpayments, including accounting errors, tax fraud or evasion, a significant financial incentive to report it. The IRS must give you up to 30% of any money they collect based upon your information. AND YOUR WON'T COLLECT????
