Glastonbury Approves Plan to Offer Land Records, Title Searches Online

The Town Council unanimously approved a plan that would offer Internet subscriptions to obtain land records and title searches online.

The Glastonbury Town Council approved a plan Tuesday that will offer Internet subscriptions to give businesses electronic access to the town’s land records.

Over the past several years the town has converted its land records—dating all the way back to 1693—into an electronic database. Town Clerk Joyce Mascena has been securing grants for the project; Glastonbury has all land records, data and images dating back to 1693, property maps dating back to 1920, and trade names and foreclosed property registrations, according to Town Manager Richard Johnson.

During their meeting Tuesday, the Town Council voted unanimously to approve the plan to offer those records online to mortgage lenders, real estate agents, lawyers, surveyors, and others who regularly come to the town clerk’s office in search of the land records.

The town will charge $400 per year for the service, or $775 for two years. The charge of $1 per copied page will remain, in addition to a convenience fee charged by the credit card company for collections.

The new service costs the town approximately $135 a month for software licensing, but is expected to generate approximately $12,000 in the first year with an expectation of greater numbers in the future, Johnson said.
