CAPT, CMT Scores Increase in Glastonbury Schools

Students here overall did better in 2013 in their standardized tests versus 2013 scores, although there were some decreases in both high school- and middle school-level tests.

Test scores among tenth grade students at Glastonbury High School for the most part improved in 2013 over last year, according to results released Tuesday.

Glastonbury students taking the Connecticut Academic Performance Test improved in math and science in 2013 over 2012, although the reading scores dipped slightly to 93.5 percent in 2013 from 94 percent in 2012. In Writing, the scores dropped slightly too, going to 96.4 percent in 2013 from 96.9 percent in 2012.

In a news release the state Department of Education said Connecticut students overall saw a hike in Connecticut Academic Performance Test (CAPT) scores, but a decline in the Connecticut Mastery Test (CMT) scores.

While CMTs were overall better in 2013 compared to 2012. In math, reading, writing and science the scores improved among several grades — as an example, proficiency went from 94.2 percent in reading to 95 percent among fifth graders. The CMTs are administered to all students from grade three to grade eight. Students are tested in math, reading and writing, and in middle school, they are tested in science as well.

Students are labeled based on their performance. The labels, in descending order, for both CMTs and CAPTs are advanced, goal, proficient, basic and below basic.
