Glastonbury Students Recognized at Scholar-Athlete Banquet

Jessica Rihm, Thomas Xu, Julia Ostrowsk and Nicholas Bremmer were all hailed during the statewide event.

A group of Glastonbury students were recognized as scholar-athletes during a recent statewide banquet.

Jessica Rihm and Thomas Xu, of Glastonbury High School, and Julia Ostrowski and Nicholas Bremmer, of Smith Middle School, were recognized during the 2013 Connecticut Association of Schools (CAS) Scholar-Athlete Banquet held this month. 

McDonald's, the company that has sponsored the event for the past 30 years, posted congratulated the students in a pair of press releases in the Glastonbury Boards. The first one is here and the second one is here.

“We are pleased to award the state’s top students who stand out and excel in their academic and athletic achievement,” says Rachel Deane, McDonald's owner/operator and president of the Connecticut and Western Massachusetts McDonald's Owner/Operator Association. 

The Connecticut High School Scholar-Athlete 2013 Awards Banquet is the largest program of its type in the state. 

Only one male and one female student are eligible for the award through a nomination from their principal for: demonstrating exemplary academic and athletic careers including participating in an interscholastic athletics; possessing personal standards and achievements that are a model to others; exhibiting outstanding school; and community service and carrying themselves with high levels of integrity, self-discipline and courage.
