The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is sponsoring an ice fishing clinic Thursday in the cafeteria of the Gideon Welles School.
The DEEP is hosting the event for interested parties of all ages from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Gideon Welles cafeteria. The clinic is designed to introduce people to ice fishing, and is open to anyone interested in the winter sport. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.
The clinic is taught by state certified volunteer instructors through the Connecticut Aquatic Resources Education program.
Anyone who attends is also invited to join the DEEP at the annual family ice fishing derby, which is hoped to be held on Coventry Lake on Jan. 26. The derby is free, but is only open to those who attend an ice fishing class.
Those interested should register by calling the Glastonbury Parks and Recreation Department at (860)652-7679.
