Glastonbury VFW Collecting Items for Female Soldiers Sunday

The Glastonbury VFW will be holding a packing event for the female soldiers serving in our armed forces on Sunday, April 14.

The Glastonbury VFW is collecting personal care items for female soldiers serving overseas during a special packing event this Sunday.

The VFW and Women's Auxiliary are hosting the event from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the South Congregational Church, 1301 Forbes St. in East Hartford, with donations accepted from noon to 1 p.m.

The focus of this drive is personal care items including soaps, shampoo, conditioner, body lotions, hand creams, sunscreen, small towels and wash cloths, toothbrushes and toothpaste and anything else the women serving their country could need, according to Commander Frank Forrest.

Due to shipping restrictions, however, no aerosol products can be accepted. The VFW will also be sending Girl Scout Cookies, and children's artwork, cards photos and drawings.

This month's theme for the art is "Flowers in the Garden," Forrest said.

Volunteers are needed to help sort donated items and pack boxes, and lunch will be provided to volunteers after the packing is complete.

The Glastonbury VFW also needs donations to help defray the cost of shipping the packages overseas.  Checks can be made out to the Glastonbury VFW and mailed to:
