Putnam Bridge Rehabilitation Project Begins Today

Lane closures are expected during the week on the bridge between Glastonbury and Wethersfield.

 

A two-year project to rehabilitate the Putnam Bridge is set to begin today, state official said.

The state Department of Transportation is conducting a $30,297,746 rehabilitation project of the bridge, which carries Route 3 between Wethersfield and Glastonbury over the Connecticut River.

Construction on the bridge is set to take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday. While lane closures are expected during work hours, the bridge will remain open through the course of the work.

Mohawk Northeast Inc. will repair the bridge’s steel and concrete, replace median barriers, and add a pedestrian sidewalk on the south side of the bridge.

Approximately 54,200 vehicles use the bridge each day, according to the Department of Transportation.

The work is expected to be finished by May 2015.
